Benro’s new line of video monopods follow in the wake of the highly successful Manfrotto 561 video monopod. I am a big fan of the Benro A48F monopod, which combines 8.8lbs of load-bearing capacity and a maximum height of nearly 6 feet, with a weight of just 3.5lbs. Unlike the competing Manfrotto model, the Benro features a fluid head which pans at the head (the Manfrotto pans only from the ball joint at the base of the monopod) making it easier to achieve smooth panning shots. At $199.99, it is also less expensive than the Manfrotto. While not as stable as a tripod, a monopod allows run-and-gun videographers to get professional results without sacrificing mobility. It’s perfect for weddings, events, and nature/travel video. I know I will be getting a lot of use out of mine this summer, and that’s why the Benro A48F video monopod is my staff pick for June.
