Since the opening of our Event Center last November, we have had no trouble filling the space with classes, workshops, and photographer meet-ups. But last Friday’s COLLABOR8 gathering was by far the biggest and most entertaining event yet. It was the type of event that we dreamed of hosting when we first moved into the space; the type of event that previously only existed as a hopeful list of what ifs?
So, when a small Portland production company, Gravitational Creations, came to us with the idea for such an event, we said, absolutely! It started simply as a filmmakers’ gala, with the goal of being a fun networking event for aspiring production professionals. From there, it grew into COLLABOR8, complete with a showcase of professional work, inspiring shorts from young filmmakers, and even selected video submissions from the public at large. Nearly everything came together at the last minute, including drink donations from Libra Wines and Oakshire Brewing. The guest list included the names of some of Portland’s best-known filmmakers: Gary Nolton of Limbo Films, John Waller and Ben Canales of Uncage the Soul Productions, and Ian McCluskey of NW Documentary. While 64 people had officially signed up for the event, the final number easily pushed 100.
COLLABOR8 was truly a collaborative effort in itself, and would not have been possible without the work of everyone involved, from the talented crew at Gravitational Creations, to the professionals who agreed to attend and network, to the filmmakers who submitted their work. It took an unprecedented idea, a large swath of creativity, and some old-fashioned hard work, but a dream turned into reality. And we couldn’t have done it without you, the community. So a big thank you to everyone who showed up to watch the films, meet new people, get inspired, and drink free beer and wine. 😉
We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did. It may have been a little rough around the edges, but overall we’d call it a resounding success. And it will only get better next time. Pro Photo Supply is very proud to be a part of such a great creative community, so thank you to everyone for the support. We’ll see you next time.
