Monthly photo contest winner – Patricia Kolberg
So it’s been a while (several months) since we started accepting submissions to our Fall Color photo contest, and we’re just now getting around to announcing the winner. But better late than never, right? So without any further delay, congratulations to Patricia Kolberg for her winning image from Mirror Pond!
Please tell us a little about yourself. What kind of photographer do you consider yourself? Enthusiast? Professional? Amateur? Weekend Warrior?
I am a serious enthusiast. I started with a Minolta SLR almost 30 years ago. From there I moved into Canon and have stayed with them ever since. I resisted digital for a long time, but really enjoy it now and wonder what all the fuss was about. For a time I worked for a local garden magazine, but they folded and my dreams of doing only photography for a living were put aside. I have to say, going back to photography, for the fun of it, has brought back the joy I had when I started, and had begun to lose.
Tell us a little about the image and how you shot it: time of day, location, your plan, technique, gear used, etc.
I spend a lot of time in Bend, and I love the fall for all the color we don’t get here in Portland. My husband and I were walking around Mirror pond, and I was taking a lot of pictures from all angles. I used a polarizer to pop the color of the leaves against the blue sky. My camera was the Rebel XTi. shot at ISO 400 with an aperature of F10. I have to say, in order to move around more easily when walking with my husband, I rarely use a tripod, so this was hand held. My plan was to simply show the gorgeous color and the beautiful reflection<
Tell us about the post production process for this image. What software did you use, what adjustments did you make (if any)?
At the time I took this photo, I did not use any programs to work on my photos, I was taught to get it right it in the camera. I still try to get the shot right and do as little editing as possible.
Where can people go to see more of your work?
I am working on building a web site at http://patkolb3.wix.com/nature-photographer
