Canon announces Compact-Servo 18-80mm T4.4 cinema lens
Today Canon took the wraps off it’s latest EF lens designed specifically for the Cinema EOS system. The new Compact-Servo 18-80mm T4.4 features stepless iris control and smooth zoom and focus operation. It is also fully compatible with the latest DualPixel AF for lightning-fast autofocus during video recording.
The optional ZSG-Z10 grip offers improved ergonomics for shoulder mount and run-and-gun filming situations, and features a zoom toggle, one-shot AF button, and record start/stop button. Together, this new combination promises to be a great fit for documentary and ENG videography.
Optically, the lens is optimized for 4K resolution and uses a 9-bladed aperture diaphragm for circular background bokeh at every T-stop setting. The constant maximum aperture of T4.4 ensures your exposures won’t change when you zoom and provides for a shallow depth of field when desired to separate your subject from the background.
It’s exciting to see Canon continue to come out with new products like this for the Cinema EOS line that illustrate the diversity of the system. On a C100 Mark II, the 18-80mm with ZDG-Z10 grip essentially turn the camera into a Super35 camcorder, combining the best of both worlds for image quality and ease-of-use.
The new lens is available for preorder at a starting price of $5225.
